Build Emotional Intelligence
Through Storytelling

Online course that helps parents & caregivers learn how to turn

reading time into emotional intelligence learning moments.

Why Emotional Literacy Matters More Than Ever

Storytime is more than just reading—it’s a chance to connect, comfort, and help children make sense of their feelings and those of others. When done with intention, we not only build language skills, but also build empathy, strengthen bonds, and support emotional growth.

Many teachers and parents could benefit from reading in a way that sparks emotional learning. That’s where this course comes in, which demonstrates how to use simple prompts and strategies to make every storytime most meaningful.

Teaching Emotional Literacy Through Stories

“Making the Most of Storytime: Using Children’s Books to Teach Emotional Intelligence” is a one-hour, online short course, designed to help parents turn everyday storytime into rich emotional learning experiences.

Testimonials

What people say about Us.

“I’ve definitely heard LifeSpan Center was talking about how it made a difference in their CDA program. I’ve definitely heard from programs that they felt more confident when completing their CLASS assessment, and for me, that’s huge.”
Erin
VP of Strategic Initiatives
“The process and the whole ECSEL program taught me that the kids need to know their emotions and understand their emotions. We are in a decade where we talk so much about emotions and mental health when we get older, but why not start when we are younger?”
Kalicia
Teacher
“[Begin to ECSEL] is based on research, but it’s also steeped in evidence and that’s really important. Not a lot of things in the early learning space really come together with evidence and research, so that sets it apart.”
Aruna
Chief Program and Policy Officer
"Begin to ECSEL has shaped teachers' understanding of not only their own emotional responses and reactions but the behaviors and underlying emotions of the children in their classrooms. The interactive courses, mentorship opportunities, and coaching calls create a community of support. I'm excited to see more of this!"
